What is meant by bus topology?

Bus topology is a specific kind of network topology in which all of the various devices in the network are connected to a single cable or line. In general, the term refers to how various devices are set up in a network.

What is bus topology and diagram?

Bus topology definition is, this is one of the simplest physical topology used for the network. This topology is famously used for the Local Area Network. In this topology, all the nodes are connected through a single cable known as ‘Backbone’. If this Backbone cable is damaged the entire network breakdowns.

Where is bus topology used?

Bus topology is used for:

  • Small workgroup local area networks (LANs) whose computers are connected using a thinnet cable.
  • Trunk cables connecting hubs or switches of departmental LANs to form a larger LAN.
  • Backboning, by joining switches and routers to form campus-wide networks.

What are features of bus topology?

A bus topology consists of a single cable with the terminator at each end. All present nodes are connected to the single cable. There is no limit to the no: of nodes that can be attached to this network, but the no: of connected nodes can actually affect the performance of the network.

What is bus linear?

Linear bus topology is a type of network topology where each device connects one after the other in a sequential chain (shown right). In this case, the bus is the network connection between the devices. If any link in the network chain is severed, all network transmission is halted.

How does bus topology works?

In a bus topology , all nodes in the network are connected directly to a central cable that runs up and down the network – this cable is known as the backbone . Data is sent up and down the backbone until it reaches the correct node.

What is bus based network?

A bus network is a local area network (LAN) topology in which each node — a workstation or other device — is connected to a main cable or link called a bus. All connected stations on the bus can communicate with all others on the singular network segment. A bus network topology is simple and reliable.

What is bus topology and its advantages?

In bus, communication between nodes are done through foremost network cable. Advantages of Bus Topology : It is the easiest network topology for connecting peripherals or computers in a linear fashion. It works very efficient well when there is a small network. Length of cable required is less than a star topology.
