What is formula of total power for single phase wattmeter method?

With a single-phase, three-wire system (Figure 3), the total power is the algebraic sum of the two wattmeter readings. Each wattmeter is connected from one of the hot wires to the neutral, and current is measured in each hot wire. Total Power is calculated as Pt = P1 + P2.

What is the use of one wattmeter method is it used for measuring power in unbalanced circuit?

The one-wattmeter method is used for the measurement of three-phase power in case balanced loads only. It is used for both star and delta connected loads. Two wattmeter method and three wattmeter methods are used for both balanced and unbalanced loads.

How will you calculate the average wattmeter reading in one wattmeter method for balanced load?

W1 = VL IL cos(30 – 0) = √3/2 VL I. Similarly, power measured by the wattmeter-2 is, W2 = VL IL cos(30 + 0) = √3/2 VL I. Hence, at unity power factor, both the wattmeters read half the value of total power consumed by the load i.e., both wattmeters read the same values.

How does a wattmeter measure power factor?

The power factor is the calculated by dividing the total watts from each meter by the total volt-amps. With a three-phase, three-wire system, power factor should be measured using the three wattmeter method instead of the two wattmeter method if the load is unbalanced, that is if the phase currents are different.

What is a single phase wattmeter?

The Single-Phase Wattmeter is used to indicate active power in single-phase circuits. Its electronic design uses voltage and current sensors to sample line voltage and current. Voltage and current circuits are internally connected so that students only have to connect the “line” and “load” terminals of the module.

Would only one wattmeter be needed to measure the total three-phase power on a balanced three-phase four wire system explain?

If a 3-phase system has four wires, it is necessary to use three wattmeters, unless it is known that the system is balanced and therefore no current is flowing in the neutral wire. For any balanced N wire system it is necessary to use N − 1 wattmeters to measure the total power.

How a single wattmeter can be used to measure reactive power?

Measurement of Reactive Power in Three Phase Circuit : Hence, only a single wattmeter is required to measure the reactive power. In order to measure the reactive power, a current coil is inserted in any one phase and the voltage coil is connected across the remaining two phases as shown below.

When power factor is 1 What does the two wattmeter reads?

In the measurement of 3-phase power by 2 watt-meter method, if the 2 watt-meter readings are equal, the power factor of the circuit is? W1 = W2 = cos 0° = 1.
