What is considered a scholastic achievement?

Your scholastic achievement or ability is your academic achievement or ability while you are at school.

One way to think of it would be this: academic and co-curricular awards will usually be “scholastic.” Extracurricular awards will usually be “non-scholastic.” Don’t worry about putting an award in the “wrong” section, as there really is no best way to fill this out.

In an attempt to alleviate confusion, I sat down with my colleague McGreggor Crowley ’00, MD, who directs the admissions process here, and together we tried to make the distinction. One way to think of it would be this: academic and co-curricular awards will usually be “scholastic.”

What counts as a scholastic award on a CV?

A scholastic award is one awarded to you for academic distinction, like NHS, student of the year, best student in Social Studies (I got that one), etc. A scouting, sports or community service award is not scholastic. Don’t obsess too much about what goes where, just be sure to include all of your awards.
