What happens if you never repay student loans?

Let your lender know if you may have problems repaying your student loan. Failing to pay your student loan within 90 days classifies the debt as delinquent, which means your credit rating will take a hit. After 270 days, the student loan is in default and may then be transferred to a collection agency to recover.

Does UK student loan ever get written off?

If you’re a student from England or Wales, your Postgraduate Loan will be written off 30 years after the April you were first due to repay.

If you don’t give SLC details of your income, you may be charged a fixed amount depending on where you live, which may be higher than the repayment amount due based on your actual income. If you don’t repay this amount, SLC may take legal action against you.

Students. If you go abroad and are no longer within the UK tax system, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) stop being involved in your student loan repayments and the Student Loans Company (SLC) takes over.
