While there’s a good chance a tiger mosquito bite won’t make you sick, you will likely experience some itchiness for a few days after being bit. This itchiness is perfectly normal. You may want to avoid scratching, however, because scratching may cause your bite to become infected.

How do you treat a tiger mosquito bite?

Try some of these home remedies for mosquito bite symptoms:

  1. Wash the bite area a few times a day and apply antibiotic ointment, such as bacitracin/ polymyxin (Polysporin).
  2. Apply a cold, wet cloth to the bite area for a few minutes at a time to relieve swelling.
  3. Take a warm oatmeal bath to relieve itching.

Do Asian tiger mosquito carry diseases?

The tiger mosquito is an important disease carrier in Asia. In the United States, it has been found to be infected with LaCrosse encephalitis viruses and West Nile virus, which can cause encephalitis (inflammation of the brain).

Threats. Asian tiger mosquitoes can transmit numerous diseases including Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), West Nile virus, and dengue fever. This biting insect is also the primary vector for Chikungunya, a virus similar to dengue fever.

Why do tiger mosquitoes bite me?

The larvae feed on small bits of debris and bacteria in the water. The male mosquitoes feed on plant juices and nectar and do not bite. On the other hand the female mosquitoes seek blood to help their eggs develop. They have a rapid bite that allows them to escape most attempts by people to swat them.

How do you treat mosquito bites?

Treatment

  1. Wash the area with soap and water.
  2. Apply an ice pack for 10 minutes to reduce swelling and itching. Reapply ice pack as needed.
  3. Apply a mixture of baking soda and water, which can help reduce the itch response.
  4. Use an over-the-counter anti-itch or antihistamine cream to help relieve itching.

When should you get a bite checked?

When to get medical advice you’ve been stung or bitten in your mouth or throat, or near your eyes. a large area (around 10cm or more patch of skin) around the bite becomes red and swollen. you have symptoms of a wound infection, such as pus or increasing pain, swelling or redness.
