What happened to Dropcam?

Dropcam, the popular home monitoring camera startup, will be acquired by Nest, maker of smart thermostats and smoke detectors. The deal is worth $555 million in cash. Nest itself was just purchased by Google just four months ago for $3.2 billion.

Does Nest still support Dropcam?

Nest plans to shut out access to Dropcam’s video streaming and cloud recording service for those two models specifically, beginning April 15th. Nest says only that those older models don’t work with some of its newer features, hence the replacements.

The Nest Secure Alarm System has been discontinued. Google has discontinued Nest Secure, the company’s DIY home security system. Google has invested $450 million in ADT in exchange for shares of Class B common stock, giving Google a 6.6\% stake in ADT.

Google acquired the company for $3.2 billion in January 2014, signaling even before the launch of Alexa and Amazon’s first Echo speaker that the tech industry’s biggest companies were interested in the smart home. Since then, however, Nest has had a bumpy road.

Can you hardwire a nest outdoor camera?

Simply put, no the Nest Cam can’t be hardwired. The Nest Cam is a Wi-Fi camera. Nest does provide an Ethernet cable with the Nest Cam, but this only helps if you want to plug your Nest cam into your router.
