What does the throttle do in an airplane?
A throttle lever, more often referred to as a thrust lever or power lever, is the means by which the pilot controls the amount of fuel provided to the engine with which it is associated.
What does keeping the throttle open mean?
Think of the throttle as a movable obstruction, or gate in the fuel line. If it’s open, there is nothing in the way, so you get maximum fuel flowing – full power. If you close it you are closing the path through the fuel line, so you get no/minimum fuel flowing through – no power.
How does a Cessna throttle work?
When the throttle is pushed forward on the Cessna, it opens up the airflow and pulling the throttle out closes airflow. As more air flows into the engine, it injects more fuel, allowing for more power.
How does throttle control manifold pressure?
The throttle controls the engine’s power output which is indirectly indicated on the manifold pressure gauge. The propeller control changes the pitch of the propeller blades and governs the RPM which is indicated on the tachometer (Fig. 2-18).
How does a Cessna engine work?
The blades spin at high speed and compress or squeeze the air. The compressed air is then sprayed with fuel and an electric spark lights the mixture. The burning gases expand and blast out through the nozzle, at the back of the engine. As the jets of gas shoot backward, the engine and the aircraft are thrust forward.

What is throttle valve function?
In a conventional gasoline engine, a throttle valve is used in the intake manifold to reduce the power output for part-load operation. Varying the throttle position (TP) controls the amount of mixture (air + fuel) inside the engine, while the AFR is kept constant.
Does a new throttle body need to be reprogrammed?
Code errors can cause your throttle position sensor to work erratically or incorrectly. Otherwise, you’ll need professional software to reprogram your sensor. This job is best done by a professional mechanic. If your sensor just needs repairs, it could be the result of faulty or loose wiring.
What does close the throttle mean?
When you’re approaching a hazard or a difficult to read road situation, you should come in on a closed throttle. This automatically reduces your closing speed (see the article from last issue), sets the bike up for a quick direction change or a stop.
What is WOT tuning?
The basic process for WOT tuning is much like part throttle tuning. The primary difference is that the target A/F ratio is usually much richer than stoichiometric. ( Nate Tovey) A safe (lower than the expected maximum) amount of ignition timing is chosen and target lambda is set to a slightly rich value.
