What does the Putnam cover?
What topics are covered on the Putnam Competition? Geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, linear algebra, combinatorics (counting), probability, number theory, complex numbers and differential equations, to name a few. Often, you will have to figure out what topic to use to answer a certain problem.
Does it cost money to take the Putnam?

Who got a perfect score on the Putnam?
Among the three top scorers — Sah, Zhang, and Zhu — two earned a nearly perfect score, and one (who prefers not to be named) earned a perfect score of 120 points. This is only the fifth time in Putnam’s history that a test-taker received a perfect score. Competitors were also ranked by participating institution.
What is a good Putnam score?
The average score is usually between 2 and 8 (1 problem completely corrrect = 10 points), and the top scorers often get 100+ points of 120 – which is ridiculously hard to do. The cutoff for the top 500 is usually between 20 and 40 points, judging by recent data.
How do you beat Putnam?
To win the Putnam as an individual, you need to have one of the top five scores on the exam. The top five individuals are not ranked relative to each other. As for teams, each school selects ahead of time three students to represent it. The team score is the sum of the ranks of those three students.
