What does no coefficient of friction mean?

Essentially, if objects have a coefficient value of zero, there’s no friction. This isn’t common, but it is possible with materials that have superfluidity. If materials have a coefficient value of one, it means the friction force is the same as the normal force. Objects can also have a friction value higher than one.

What does the coefficient of static friction equal to 0 mean?

The value equal to 0 means there is no friction between two objects. A coefficient of friction that is more than one just means that the frictional force is stronger than the normal force such as silicone rubber, can have a coefficient of static friction much greater than one.

Does frictionless mean 0?

Explanation: If no forces are acting upon the skater and he is on a frictionless surface, then that means he has no net acceleration. Presumably the skier has mass, therefore the acceleration must be zero. If an object moves with a velocity and there is no acceleration, then the velocity remains constant.

Can you have zero friction?

Complete answer: No, we cannot have zero friction surfaces. Even if we have used a lot of lubricants. We can reduce the friction but we can never reduce it to zero because every surface will still have minor in them.

What does the coefficient of friction measure?

The coefficient of friction, µ, is a measure of the amount of friction existing between two surfaces. A low value of coefficient of friction indicates that the force required for sliding to occur is less than the force required when the coefficient of friction is high.

Can the coefficient of static friction be less than 0?

The coefficient of friction depends on the objects that are causing friction. The value is usually between 0 and 1 but can be greater than 1. A value of 0 means there is no friction at all between the objects; such is possible with Superfluidity.

Is friction zero in space?

While outer space does contain gas, dust, light, fields, and microscopic particles, they are in too low of a concentration to have much effect on spaceships. As a result, there is essentially zero friction in space to slow down moving objects.

Does friction occur in zero gravity?

Friction exists in space, just that not in the most familiar cases. Walking or rolling are not normally possible without gravity pushing both bodies in contact with a normal force. However the normal force does not have to be only gravity, it could be caused by pressure or some other force (thrusters, magnetism etc).
