What does layoff mean in work?
A layoff is generally considered a separation from employment due to a lack of work available. The term “layoff” is mostly a description of a type of termination in which the employee holds no blame. Most laid-off workers will typically be eligible to collect unemployment benefits.

Can I be laid off without pay?
If you are laid-off you should get your full pay unless it is part of your contract that your employer can lay you off without pay or on reduced pay. If it is not part of your employment contract, you may agree to change your contract. For example, a lay-off might be better than being made redundant.
