Can you say quarter to noon?
We don’t ever really say ‘it’s a quarter to noon’ or ‘it’s noon twenty-two’- we just say ‘it’s noon’ or ‘it’s almost noon’. In the other cases we would just say ‘twelve’-‘it’s quarter to twelve’, etc. The same goes for ‘midday’.
What does a quarter past 7 mean?
Both “quarter past” and “quarter after” are equally correct. So, when it’s 7:15, we say it’s “quarter past seven”. Or when it’s 1:15, we say it’s “quarter after one”. At minute 45, we say it’s “quarter to” the next hour. For example, at 5:45, we say it’s “quarter to six” (or 15 minutes before 6:00).

How do you use a quarter in time?
At minute 45, we say it’s “quarter to” the next hour. For example, at 5:45, we say it’s “quarter to six” (or 15 minutes before 6:00). At minute 30, we say it’s “half past”. So at 9:30, we would say it’s “half past nine” (or half an hour after 9:00).
Is it quarter past or a quarter past?
In fact, we can actually say “quarter”, instead of “a quarter”, when we’re talking about the time. If you asked me the time at 6.15, I might well say “quarter past six”, instead of “a quarter past six” – but that’s pretty conversational, and “a quarter” is more normal if we’re speaking carefully, or writing.
