Leave is limited to three days on any one occasion, but can be extended if authorized by the government entity that called for the mission and the employer agrees. Employers may not discriminate against or terminate employees who are members of the Civil Air Patrol because of such membership.

To be eligible to fly a CAP plane, the pilot must have a valid FAA private, commercial or airline pilot certificate; must be an active CAP member at least 17 years in age; and must possess a valid and current medical certificate.
