What do wrist wraps do when lifting?

Wrist straps, also called lifting straps, are straps, that are looped around the wrist and wrapped around the bar to make a hook-like system between the barbell and the lifter’s hand. Their main function is to let the lifter grip more weight.

Can you use wrist wraps for pull ups?

Wrist wraps will be of no use unless you intend wearing a leotard or you will be performing actual gymnastic movements like pommel horse of vault. Also, wrist wraps won’t be necessary for body movements like pull-ups, push-ups and ring dips.

    How to use wrist straps?

    Begin by orienting the straps so that the loops are on opposite ends.

  • Take the strap with the loop on the RIGHT side (this is usually the one with the logo facing right-side up) and place it over your LEFT hand.
  • Run the end of the strap through the loop.
  • Tighten the strap by pulling the end through. The end of the strap should rest between your thumb and your index finger.
  • Take the strap with the loop on the LEFT side (this is usually the one with the logo facing up-side down) and place it over your RIGHT hand.
  • Just as we did with the left hand,run the end of the strap through the loop,and tighten it by pulling.
  • The following steps are the same for both hands. Run the bottom side of the strap under the bar and wrap it around the bar.
  • Wrap it around a second time.
  • Lay the end of the strap under your palms. Tighten your grip by rotating your hands forwards and back. This will become intuitive when you try it yourself.
