What do state senators do?

As a State Senator, you’re a member of the legislative branch, just like a U.S. Senator. You’re elected by voters to represent them in the State Senate, where your primary duties are creating, debating, and voting on legislation that either makes new laws or modifies existing ones.

Neither the House nor the Senate may adjourn for more than three days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays) without the concurrence of the other Chamber.

What happens to the Senate when it is not in session?

When the Senate is not in session, the intent was that the Senators would be meeting with & reporting back to the state legislatures. They should be spending a lot more time meeting with all the members of the state legislative branch & the governor to truly I stand the needs of their state.
