What did the caretaker do to the Ocampa?

The crews again ask the Caretaker to return them to the Alpha Quadrant. He reveals that he was part of an ancient alien race whose technology accidentally destroyed the Ocampan planet’s atmosphere, leaving it lifeless. In recompense, he and another of his race have cared for the Ocampa ever since.

Why did Captain Janeway destroy the array?

Destroying the array would harm the Ocampa by preventing the Caretaker from protecting them. Regardless, he was dying already. Not destroying the array would allow the Kazon to take control, as they had only just realized how weak the entity was.

What was the caretaker looking for?

Wishing to procreate so that an offspring can continue to care for the Ocampa, the Caretaker searched the galaxy for lifeforms with a compatible bio-molecular pattern. In doing so, he abducted more than 50 ships from across the galaxy, including the U.S.S. Equinox, the U.S.S. Voyager, and Chakotay’s Maquis vessel.

What was the caretaker?

The Caretaker is a play in three acts by Harold Pinter. Although it was the sixth of his major works for stage and television, this psychological study of the confluence of power, allegiance, innocence, and corruption among two brothers and a tramp, became Pinter’s first significant commercial success.

By destroying the Array she ensures that things go the way they would have gone if Voyager hadn’t arrived and intervened. The Kazon-Ogla don’t get access to the Array, the Ocampa don’t get massacred and wiped out, The Ogla do not become the dominant sect in the area.

Both ships are thrown seventy-five thousand light years into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker. The Caretaker’s array, the only means home, is later destroyed by Captain Kathryn Janeway in order to protect the Ocampa and the two crews are forced to work together to find a route back to the Alpha Quadrant.
