What certification do I need to scuba dive?

The PADI recreational diving certification levels are the following:

  • PADI Scuba Diver Or Junior PADI Scuba Diver To Start.
  • Open Water Diver (OWD) Or Junior Open Water Diver: A Scuba Diving Certification Level That Gives You Autonomy.
  • Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) Is the Third Amateur Scuba Diving Certification Level.

There is no real need to buy your own tanks as nearly all dive shop has them to rent. Finally, you may not by law be required to have an open water certification to go scuba diving but it would be extremely dangerous to go diving without the training. To get the open water certification is not hard and is worth the effort.

How long does it take to get PADI open water certification?

Getting open water certification from PADI involves 2 parts and can be completed over 2 to 3 days. The first is the basic theoretical you need to learn. The second is the practical where you will have to do 4 dives. Learn the basic theory of scuba diving is an important part.

Does a discovery dive count toward your open water certification?

A discovery dive doesn’t count toward your open water certification but it’ll definitely make your first open water dives easier and more enjoyable. During confined dives there’s no need to panic. It’s strange taking the first breaths through a regulator, but trained professionals make you feel safe.
