What causes polycarbonate cracking?

Polycarbonate, an amorphous glassy thermoplastic, is susceptible to cracking or crazing when under stress and in contact with a chemical environment.

What is a mold crack?

Cracking is a commonly seen defect in plastic injection molded products, of which the main causes are stress and deformation, mainly including residual stress, external stress and product deformation caused by external environment. (4) Stress will also occur when the injection and pressure holding time is too long.

How strong is injection molded plastic?

Polycarbonate is extremely durable and 250 times stronger than glass. With its predictable and uniform mold shrinkage, this injection molding material offers precise dimensional control. PC plastic is also lightweight and has excellent optical properties to support light transmission.

How long does a mold last?

Depending on the type of mold, some spores can remain dormant for hundreds of years under the right circumstances. That is why it is not enough to simply eliminate humidity if you have an active mold problem.

How many times can you use an injection mold?

The SPI (Society of the Plastics Industry) classifies injection molds based on their life expectancy: Class 101 – Life expectancy of +1,000,000 cycles.

What is mold fee?

A small, single cavity plastic injection mold usually costs between $1,000 and $5,000. Very large or complex molds may cost as much as $80,000 or more. On average, a typical mold costs $12,000. And don’t forget that the price of a mold is just the beginning.

What causes cracks in plastic?

When force is applied to plastic, it travels along the polymer chains causing molecules to strain to remain in contact. The polymer chains eventually creep toward the pull and deform. This stage is called creep. With force and time, crazing or stress cracking occurs.

What is seismic crack?

The seismic crack propagation of concrete gravity dams with initial cracks at the upstream and downstream faces has rarely been studied during strong earthquakes. For this purpose, the cracking process and final crack profile of Koyna dam during the 1967 Koyna earthquake are simulated numerically by employing the XFEM.

What causes polypropylene to crack?

Environmental stress cracking (ESC) is the premature cracking of a polymer due to the combined action of a stress and a fluid. It is associated with the phenomenon of crazing and solvent plasticization of the polymer.
