Can Axolotl live with other animals?
Axolotls certainly can live with fishes or other freshwater creatures. BUT either one will suffer or die eventually. So it is definitely in your pet axolotl’s best interest to be kept isolated from the other sea creatures or fishes.
Can axolotls live with shrimp?
I have a few algae shrimp in my tank with a pair of axolotls and they do ok. Put 3 in a couple of months ago and at least 2 are still alive, they find their own food and are too fast for the axolotls. They hide pretty well in the rocks or in plants and stay out of the way!
Will axolotls eat apple snails?
Apple snails are not acceptable due to their large size and near impossibility of passing. Tiny pond snails that come in on plants are no problem for axolotls, and are snacked on. No apple snails. If you want cleaners, try the tiny pond snails or ghost/cherry shrimp.
Can axolotl live with Betta?
Can An Axolotl Live With A Betta? No, you should never put a betta fish in the same tank with an axolotl. Betta fish are aggressive, they are territorial, and they are often bully fish too. Betta fish will pick on and attack axolotls, so they are absolutely out of the question.
What do axolotls like to play with?
They don’t attach them selves to rocks or the substrate, just roll around like giant green snow balls lol. Axies might have some fun with that, and also ghost shrimp like Isobel suggested. I have ghost shrimp in my tank, they are fun to watch, and provide activity for the axies… even though they can’t catch them lol.
Can Plecos live with axolotls?
It is generally not recommended to keep any type of fish with Axolotls as they can nip at their gills or otherwise stress the axolotl. Plecos are definitely not compatible with axolotls for several reasons. One is the difference in needs for ideal living environment.
Are albino axolotls rare?
Leucistic Leucistic axolotls are a translucent white with shiny gold flecks, red or pink gills, and dark brown or black eyes. They are very rare in the wild because they are easily spotted by predators, but are one of the most common and beautiful morphs in captivity.
Can I put a Plecos with my axolotls?
Can you have a pleco with an axolotl?
The general consensus seems to be that they don’t mix well as species for a couple of reasons. Their temp needs are different plus plecos appear to have a taste for the slime coat of axolotls and will suck it off along with tracts of skin causing some rather gross injuries.
Can two axolotls live together?
Axolotls are not a social species, so they don’t need a friend to be entertained. That being said, it is perfectly ok to house axolotls together, as long as they are roughly the same size. In addition, if your axolotls are not adequately fed, they may eat each other’s limbs for extra nutrition.
How can I tell if my axolotl is male or female?
You can tell the sex of an axolotl by looking at its cloaca once it has reached sexual maturity. You should wait until they are about 18 months old in order to do this. A male axolotl will have a large lump whereas a female has a much smaller bump. Females also tend to be more round than a male.
Can axolotls eat snails?
Snails are also small in size and tend to be somewhat safer for axolotls to swallow. However, for apple snails, they may start growing in size. As they get bigger, remove them from the tank or they may cause choking. Snail’s shell or exoskeleton can sometimes be a danger to axolotls as well.
I have found that the following 3 sea creatures are the best fit to share a tank with the axolotl. However, there is no guarantee if they will be eaten. Small coldwater snails such as bladder snails, ramshorn snails or apple snails are small and have a somewhat softer exoskeleton. They are not something I will recommending sharing tank with.
Can you keep Malaysian trumpet snails with axolotls?
Malaysian trumpet snails are certainly not the best snail species to keep with your axolotl. Why? Because their shells are very sharp and there is a big shell around their bodies. Therefore, it’s not recommended to keep Malaysian trumpet snails with axolotls.
Do axolotls need to be alone?
So it is definitely in your pet axolotl’s best interest to be kept isolated from the other sea creatures or fishes. They do very well in solitary so there is no need to get them any company especially if you want them to live a long and healthy life.
