What are real particles?

Real particles are the ones which are on the “mass shell”. Relativistic energy-momentum relation is E2 = p2c2 + m02c4. When energy and three momentum vector p of an object satisfies energy momentum relation it is on the “mass shell”. Real particles always obey relativistic energy-momentum relation.
