The twelfth ACR lost three Sheridans to mines during a river crossing on one occasion, while five vehicles of the eleventh ACR were obliterated by Viet Cong rocket-propelled grenades during the battle of Lam Son 719. Altogether, around one hundred M551s were lost in Vietnam, though some of these losses include breakdowns in the field.
