Is there anything with the same density as water?

Water molecules all have the same mass and size. No matter what size sample of water you measure, the relationship between the mass and volume will always be the same. Because D=m/v, the density is the same for any amount of water.

Can 2 substances have the same density?

They do not vary from one sample of the same substance to another. However, it is possible for two different substances to have the same density.

When density of water is equal to density of object?

If the density of the object is equal to the density of the liquid, the object when placed in the liquid would have neutral buoyancy. The object when placed in the liquid would sink until it was submerged and then would only move up or down if acted on by forces other than buoyancy.

When the density of object is equal to the density of water?

Do all solids have the same density?

The same number of particles in a gas spread further apart than in the liquid or solid states. The same mass takes up a bigger volume . This means the gas is less dense. Density also depends on the material….Solids, liquids and gases.

Material Density in grams per cubic centimetre (g/cm 3)
Ice 0.98
Water 1
Air 0.00129

Can a solid and liquid have the same density?

Short answer no, they don’t. As a generalisation, density is a measure of how ‘tightly’ the molecules of a substance are ‘packed’ together. In general, molecules of a given substance are most tightly packed as a solid, less so as a liquid and least so as a gas.

What woods are denser than water?

Wood products Lignum vitae is hard and durable, and is also the densest wood traded (average dried density: ~79 lbs/ft3 or ~1260 kg/m3); it will easily sink in water.

Does all wood have the same density?

The density of wood differs depending on tree species and tree growth environment. Even the parts of the tree have different densities: branches usually have a lower wood density compared to the trunk.

Are there any solids with a density similar to water?

But sure there are solids with density very similar to water, basically the object will not float nor sink if placed in water. But it may not last because the water would wet/penetrate into this solid and change its density. And the density of water is not uniform say in the ocean either.

Why is the density of water different at different temperatures?

Another reason is that the density of water changes with temperature. Water is most dense at 4 °C and at that temperature has a density of 1 g/cm 3. At room temperature, around 20–25 °C, the density is about 0.99 g/cm 3.

Is the density of a substance the same regardless of size?

The density of a substance is the same regardless of the size of the sample. Students measure the volume and mass of water to determine its density. Then they measure the mass of different volumes of water and discover that the density is always the same.

What is the density of pure water?

Note that the density of pure water is defined to be 1 gram per cubic centimeter (or, g/ml). Unlike most substances, water is denser as a liquid than as a solid.
