Is the RCMP a good place to work?

Working with the RCMP can definitely be rewarding, the training and the work are very invigorating. There are many skills and areas of service one can learn and specialize in. The job is very stressful, but help is always available, teamwork and communication is wonderful.

When you successfully complete the Cadet Training Program and have been offered employment, you will be hired as a Constable at an annual salary of $63,210. Usually, within 36 months of service, your annual salary will have increased incrementally to $102,418.

Is it hard to get into the RCMP?

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who has lived in Canada for the last 10 years, and have a minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent education. You must be fluent in English and/or French, be at least 19 years of age at time of engagement, and meet health and psychological standards.

In August, RCMP members ratified the six-year deal, which includes a 23.78 per cent pay increase for RCMP members. The contract is retroactive to 2017, and municipalities are required to make a one-time payment to members to cover the cost of pay increases from 2017 to 2021.

Why is it called Royal Canadian Mounted Police?

The force added “royal” to its name in 1904, after having been awarded the title for military service in the Second Boer War. It merged with the Dominion Police, the main police force for all points east of Manitoba, in 1920 and was renamed the “Royal Canadian Mounted Police”.

Do you have to speak French to be RCMP?

There is no maximum age limit to apply to the RCMP. You must be fluent in either English or French, including being able to speak, write, and read either official language. You do not need to be bilingual to apply. You must meet minimal health standards as assessed by RCMP Health Services.

How long is RCMP Depot training?

If you are successful in the application process, you will complete an accelerated training program at the RCMP Academy (Depot) in Regina, Saskatchewan, as opposed to the regular 26 weeks. While at Depot, you will receive a cadet recruitment allowance of $525/week to help with your financial needs.
