Does the military use AR-15 rifles?

The US military uses the M16, not the AR 15. In this case, it was adapted from ArmaLite’s previous firearm design, the AR 10, based on demand from the US military after World War II. It was designed in answer to the need for a firearm that was lighter and could fire a smaller, high-velocity caliber cartridge.

What AR does the military use now?

The M4/M4A1 5.56mm Carbine is a lightweight, gas operated, air cooled, magazine fed, selective rate, shoulder fired weapon with a collapsible stock. It is now the standard issue firearm for most units in the U.S. military.

What is an AR-15 rifle?

Contrary to what some believe, AR-15 rifles are not military-grade or fully-automatic. Nor does the “AR” stand for “assault rifle.” Instead, the “AR” is short for ArmaLite, the name of the company that first developed this type of rifle and subsequently sold the rights to Colt in 1959.

What are the pros and cons of an AR-15?

Other desirable features of the AR-15 include relatively low recoil and an ergonomic and easily customizable design. While the AR-15’s overall design provides a more comfortable shooting experience with larger calibers, some AR-15s are also chambered for the small, inexpensive 22-caliber cartridge.

What kind of parts does a Colt AR-15 come with?

Unlike every other rifle on this list, this Colt AR-15 comes nearly bare so that you can add your own preferred handguard, buttstock, and trigger guard. That means you can use some of the parts you have floating around, or take advantage of sales and deals for your rifle.
