Is malyalam and Tamil similar?

Malayalam is a language of the Dravidian family. It is very similar to Tamil and is one of the main languages of the same family. Malayalam is a language spoken in the state of Kerala of the Republic of India. Malayalam, another example of an agglutinating language, is said to have more affinity to Sanskrit than Tamil.

I can’t differentiate between Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada scripts but I can differentiate between Tamil and Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Because Tamil has half of the consonants of Malayalam. Tamil is the only language that doesn’t have more consonants and less vowels.

Kannada is the language spoken by the people of Karnataka. Kannada script bears resemblance to the Telugu script, and the two of them have a common ancestry in the old Telugu-Kannada script.

Why is Telugu more widely spoken than Kannada in India?

Telugu has twice the number of speakers compared to kannada, not to mention a huge and active diaspora. It is the most widely spoken language in India after Hindi. Tamil and Kannada have the same complexity in the literary forms. Tamil, however, is simpler in the spoken form. So, in terms of memorizing the grammatical nuances, Kannada will be the most difficult.
