Is it possible for molarity and molality to be the same?

Although their spellings are similar, molarity and molality cannot be interchanged. Molarity is a measurement of the moles in the total volume of the solution, whereas molality is a measurement of the moles in relationship to the mass of the solvent.

What is the difference between molarity and molality How are they similar?

Molarity is the ratio of the moles of a solute to the total liters of a solution. The solution includes both the solute and the solvent. Molality, on the other hand, is the ratio of the moles of a solute to the kilograms of a solvent.

For what type of solution molarity and molality are same?

They are the same in aqueous, dilute solutions, this is because the density of water is 1g/cc. (mass & volume same)& in dilute solutions,no much difference between solution & solvent so the equations for molarity & molality become almost the same.

What is molarity and molality give the differences of molarity and molality that make molality is more suitable to be used in Colligative properties explain?

Molality differs from molarity only in the denominator. While molarity is based on the liters of solution, molality is based on the kilograms of solvent. Concentrations expressed in molality are used when studying properties of solutions related to vapor pressure and temperature changes.

What is the relationship between molarity and molality?

MOLARITY – It is defined as the number of moles of solute per litre of the solution. MOLALITY – It is defined as the number of moles of solute per kilogram of the solvent.

What is the relation between molarity and molality with temperature?

Molarity is dependent on temperature, whereas molality is not. With temperature, molarity varies. Molarity is solute moles per litre of solution. As the temperature increases, water expands, so the solution’s volume therefore increases.

Is molality equal to molarity in water?

For aqueous solutions (solutions where water is the solvent) near room temperature, the difference between molar and molal solutions is negligible. This means the “per L” of molarity is equal to the “per kg” of molality. For a solvent like ethanol where the density is 0.789 kg/L, a 1 M solution would be 0.789 m.

Does molality depend on temperature?

The molality ( m ) of a solution is the moles of solute divided by the kilograms of solvent. Molality is used because its value does not change with changes in temperature. The volume of a solution, on the other hand, is slightly dependent upon temperature.

In which condition normality and molarity of a substance becomes equal?

For some chemical solutions, Normality and Molarity are equivalent or N=M. This typically occurs when N=1.

When molality of a solution becomes equal to molarity?

Molality is defined as the no. of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent. Because the density of water at 25°C is around 1kg/litre thus the molality is approximately equal to molarity for dilute aqueous solutions at thistemperature.
