Is it OK to buy stocks at all-time high?

While those markets were at or near all-time highs, the resounding answer is YES! Investing in those all-time high markets was a smart thing to do. What does it mean when the stock market is at an all-time high?

A record high is the highest historical price level reached by a security, commodity, or index during trading. All-time record highs typically represent significant price news for companies and markets—investors may be enticed to purchase stock, believing the company will continue to perform well.

A stock that reaches a 52-week high intraday, but closes negative on the same day, may have topped out. This means that its price may not go much higher in the near term. Stocks making new 52-week highs are often the most susceptible to profit taking, resulting in pullbacks and trend reversals.

What happens after a stock hits all-time high?

Resistance disappears when a security hits an all-time high but hidden obstacles remain, ready to surprise unwary longs with reversals and shakeouts. While the breakout completes the digestion of prior supply, the security undergoes additional testing that can last weeks or months.
