Is it normal to hardly ever dream?

On its own, not dreaming is no cause for concern, and there are even a few things you can do to encourage dream memory. When a lack of dreaming is due to lack of quality sleep, that’s another story. Poor sleep could be a sign of a physical or mental health problem. Chronic sleep problems can harm your overall health.

How often should you dream?

Dreams can happen at any time during sleep. But you have your most vivid dreams during a phase called REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, when your brain is most active. Some experts say we dream at least four to six times a night.

Why am I suddenly dreaming more?

Your dreams may be more vivid for different reasons, including lifestyle changes like a disruption in normal daily activities, exercise routine, eating habits and sleep pattern. They occur during REM cycles, and the more REM sleep you get in a night, the more dreams you’ll typically experience.

In a 1998 study of 1,000 Austrians, 32\% reported dreaming less than once per month. Many thousands of years ago in North Africa near the mountain called Atlas, one group of native peoples was said to never have any dreams. Those individuals who recall few or no dreams over many years appear to suffer no ill consequences.
