Is it normal to be sleep deprived with newborn?

Almost all parents will experience sleep deprivation in the first six weeks or so after a baby is born. After all, babies don’t even know night from day at that point.

Can baby sleep on my chest if I’m awake?

It’s safe for your baby to nap on your chest as long as you remain awake and aware of the baby. But if you fall asleep too, it raises the risk of injury (or death) to your baby.

Why is my newborn awake so much at night?

Hunger is a common reason babies wake during the night. Babies need to eat to grow, so it’s not healthy to try and change this need or retrain it. Even if you know that you just fed your baby a couple of hours earlier, check to see if food is what your little one needs. Thirst is another reason babies wake up.

Can’t sleep at night when baby sleeps?

If you can’t sleep at night even when your baby is asleep or you feel tired all the time, these could be signs of postnatal depression. Other signs include feeling down or hopeless and not enjoying the things you normally enjoy.

  4. Sucking on their fingers or putting their fist in their mouth.
  5. Flexing their hands, arms and/or legs.
  6. Clenching their fingers or fists over their chest or tummy.

  1. Gassiness or burping.
