Is it bad to keep a laptop plugged in all the time?

Most laptops use lithium-ion batteries. Once your battery is charged to full capacity, it will simply stop charging, so keeping your laptop plugged in will not cause any issues to your battery.

Why does my laptop battery drain when not in use?

This is a fairly common problem, and it’s usually caused by the Connected Standby feature. Then, some say that laptop battery self-discharges. This is a cause of an improper shutdown and can be fixed by pressing and holding the Power button to turn off the device completely.

Should I keep my laptop charged at 100\%?

As we mentioned, you can increase your battery’s lifespan by only charging your laptop to less than 100\%. Don’t leave your computer anywhere where the temperate is over 86℉ since high heat can damage your battery and decrease its lifespan.

How long do laptop batteries last?

At some point, after so many charging cycles, the battery life will noticeably shorten. After two years, a regularly used laptop battery may even no longer hold a charge at all and needs a replacement. Another big no-no is discharging the laptop battery completely, since that shortens the number of charge cycles of the battery.

Should you discharge your laptop battery completely?

Another big no-no is discharging the laptop battery completely, since that shortens the number of charge cycles of the battery. To get the most charge cycles out of a battery, BatteryUniversity recommends keeping the state of charge of the battery between 30 and 80 percent. So what do you do?

How do I overcharge my laptop battery?

There’s no way to “overcharge” these batteries. When you get to 100\% charge and leave your laptop plugged in, the charger will stop charging the battery. The laptop will just run directly off the power cable. After the battery discharges a bit, the charger will kick into gear again and top the battery off.
