Is Heartgard safe for collies?

Collies (including Border Collies, Bearded Collies, and Rough Coated Collies), Shelties, and dogs with pigmented bodies but white feet are prone to a genetic anomaly called the MDR-1 mutation. The consensus among experts therefore is that Heartgard Plus is safe for all dogs.

Why is ivermectin bad for collies?

Ivermectin may not be safe for collies and similar breeds at higher dosages. The increased sensitivity of these breeds of dogs is a result of a mutation of the MDR1 (multi-drug resistance) gene.
