Is Greenland fully independent?

Because of Norway’s weak status, it lost sovereignty over Greenland in 1814 when the union was dissolved. Greenland became Danish in 1814 and was fully integrated in the Danish state in 1953 under the Constitution of Denmark….Greenland.

Who gave Denmark Greenland?

Greenland became a possession of Denmark in 1380 when the Norwegian kingdom came under the Danish Crown. The first Norse settlements eventually failed when the colony was neglected by Norway in the 1300s and 1400s. There was no trace of the Norsemen when Greenland was rediscovered in 1578 by British explorers.

The United States also had a strong claim on Greenland.

Canada advised Britain to do so in 1920, and Britain reiterated that it should be consulted before any sale; France, Japan, Italy, and Sweden had no reservations. Denmark formally declared sovereignty over all of Greenland in 1921.
