Is boot partition necessary for dual boot?

No! As you are dual booting from a single physical drive, it needs (must have) only one EFI System Partition (ESP).

Does dual boot have to be on the same drive?

You can have two OS in the same hard disk in different partitions. But you can boot only one and you should choose it during power on. Normally Linux and Windows are preferred to be in the same hard disk.

Should I partition my SSD C drive?

SSDs are generally recommended not to partition, in order to avoid wasting of storage space due to partition. 120G-128G capacity SSD is not recommended to partition. Since the Windows operating system is installed on the SSD, the actual usable space of a 128G SSD is only about 110G.

Partitioning a SSD does not have any negative impact, but also it won’t give it a better performance or speed. SSD uses memories to store data and has no moving components. SSD won’t confine the storage of data only to a particular physical region hence you need not partition a SSD for just better performance.

Essentially, dual booting will slow down your computer or laptop. While a Linux OS may use the hardware more efficiently overall, as the secondary OS it is at a disadvantage.
