How would you describe an old age home?
An old age home is a shelter that is home to the older and needy people who the family has abandoned. In old age homes, these people are taken care of the food, clothing and shelter. Also, they are given proper medical facilities. Much recreational and entertainment are also provided.
How you felt after coming back from an old age home?
I was so sad and depressed to see first time in my life there are such homes where the old people have to live without families. I personally feel people living in such old age homes feel very lonely and abandoned. The old people need their sons, daughters, grandchildren to live happily.

Why do we need to support the elderly?
Elders desire a life with good health, dignity, economic independence and finally a peaceful death. Understanding their needs and concerns, will ensure their good health. Lending an emotional support to the elders keep them jovial, which is inevitably the ideal way to live a healthy life.

Due to an increase in the crime rate in India, most elderly people find it easy and secure to live in old age homes when their children are not living with them or if they are working abroad. The stay in these homes provides them security by surveillance through CCTV cameras or anything.

A society where elders are healthy, happy, empowered and socially integrated. We aim to contribute to the building of a society in which people are encouraged and enabled to age productively and with dignity. Our mission is to work towards developing and implementing activities that enhance productive aging.
What is it like to visit an old age home?
It was actually a pleasant experience to visit an old age home and spend some time with the elders present there. On that day we spent a lot communicating with them, then we played some small games like passing the ball, musical chairs, anthyakshari etc.. and made them entertained.

During my B.Tech first year, the NSS unit of our college has organized a visit to a old age home in Mangalore. I have given my name for that visit. The old-age home was situated in the outskirts of the city and was close to the national highway. It was a two-storey building with a garden out in the front and a small temple just on its east boundary. The walls of the home were old and the paint had worn off.
What have you learned from your visit to Jeevan Asha?
During my visit to Jeevan Asha I learned that being an old person is not easy for anyone. Those people were suffering from relationship pain & loneliness which was easily seen in their wet eyes. There were separate wards and each ward consisted of 3-4 beds.
