How many FASTag is currently operational?

FASTag is currently operational at more than 420 toll plazas across India including National and State Highways. The FASTag program ensures to keep adding on more toll plazas as time passes by and be genuinely cashless in the functioning everywhere in India.

What is latest news about FASTag?

Govt plans to make FASTag mandatory for buying third party vehicle insurance from April 1, 2021. As per Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, FASTag had been made mandatory since 2017 for registration of new four-wheeled Vehicles and is to be supplied by the Vehicle Manufacturer or their dealers.

FASTags are currently issued by 23 certified banks through various channels such as Point-of-Sale (POS) at National Highway toll plazas and select bank branches. You can buy a FASTag from Paytm, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, etc.

Paytm said that the payments bank is the largest FASTag issuer in the country as well as the largest acquirer of toll plazas. “Paytm has become the first bank in India to issue 1 crore FASTags, it has become the largest acquirer bank for payment collection at 280 toll plazas.

What is the total sales of FASTag across the country?

According NHAI, as of Dec 6, 2019 the total sales of FASTag across the country was about 1.96 lakhs. Whereas, the total production capacity of FASTag by all the FASTag manufacturers is about 30 to 50,000 per day. The present inventory of FASTags acrose banks is about 18 lakhs.

When will the extra hybrid lanes become FASTag only lanes?

Toll Plazas should make the extra hybrid lanes as FASTag only lanes within 45 days from Dec 15, 2019. If you have not gotten your FASTag, please get it soon.

Will there be a supply deficit of fastags in 2019?

A meeting was convened with the tag manufacturers on Dec 5th, 2019 and with the acuqiring banks on Dec 9th, 2019. The chip used in the manufacture of RFID tags has to be imported and there is a lead time of about six weeks to get them. Becuase of this lead time and the production capacity, market will have a supply deficit of FASTags.
