How does Google save so much data?

Rather than storing each user’s data on a single machine or set of machines, we distribute all data — including our own — across many computers in different locations. We then chunk and replicate the data over multiple systems to avoid a single point of failure.

How Google stores all it’s data?

Like most search engines, Google indexes documents by building a data structure known as inverted index. Such an index obtains a list of documents by a query word. The index is very large due to the number of documents stored in the servers. The index is partitioned by document IDs into many pieces called shards.

How does Google store information?

Google and any other company which generates huge amount of data uses cloud to store it’s data. Given that the number of users are always volatile, the data generated on a day’s scale is also volatile. Therefore Google doesn’t use an off the shelf type of storage to store their data.
