Worship. On day of Naga Panchami, Nagas, cobras, and snakes are worshipped with milk, sweets, flowers, lamps, and even sacrifices. Naga or serpent deities made of silver, stone, wood, or paintings on the wall are first bathed with water and milk and then worshipped with the reciting of the following mantras.

Are Nagas good or bad?

naga, (Sanskrit: “serpent”) in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, a member of a class of mythical semidivine beings, half human and half cobra. They are a strong, handsome species who can assume either wholly human or wholly serpentine form and are potentially dangerous but often beneficial to humans.

Why Nagas are Worshipped?

The snake primarily represents rebirth, death and mortality, due to its casting of its skin and being symbolically “reborn”. Over a large part of India there are carved representations of cobras or nagas or stones as substitutes. To these human food and flowers are offered and lights are burned before the shrines.

How do naga pooja at home?

Offer milk or kheer to the snake god or Lord Shiva. Avoid consuming food that has salt. Apply Haldi and Kumkum on snake holes and offer flowers. Then chant the Nag Panchami pooja mantra to seek blessings from the snake gods.

Can we have Naga Idol at home?

Idol is not the word, Diety. Yes , we can have it at Home temple, provided you are initiated by a bonafide spiritual master.

Do Nagas have powers?

Nagas commonly have some magical powers most often connected to shapeshifting between their two natures. They live in the netherworld called Patala, which is the beautiful underworld of Hinduism.

How long can a Naga live?

Most naga live for a long time. The oldest recorded is said to have lived to be 500 years old.

What should we do on Naga Panchami?

Offering milk to the snake god is the main ritual on Nag Panchami. It is a belief among the people that offerings to the Nag Devta on this day save their families from any evil. Many observe fasts and feed the poor to mark this day. Some devotees also make snake idols at home with clay.
