How do you maintain ceramic bearings?

Full ceramic bearings are maintenance free. However, they can be washed using regular tap water or a standard bearing cleaner product if required. Make sure the bearing is completely dry before replacing it. These bearings do not need lubricant to operate, so there is no need to add an oil or grease at this stage.

Which type of bearing needs lubricant?

Lubrication is absolutely essential to the proper operation of ball and roller bearings. A proper lubricant will reduce friction between the internal sliding surfaces of the bearings components and reduce or prevent metal-to-metal contact of the rolling elements with their raceways.

Can you use speed cream on ceramic bearings?

Dry your bearings: Remove the bearings and the ball retainers from the cleaning solution and dry immediately. Lubricate your bearings: We recommend 2 drops of Bones® Speed Cream® per bearing for bearings with steel balls. For Bones® Swiss Ceramic Bearings, only one drop per bearing is needed.

Can I use acetone to clean ceramic bearings?

You should clean the bearings and the ball retainers. To do so, soak them first and foremost in a de-greasing solution such as acetone or pure alcohol. Place the bearings in fresh chemicals and shake gently so as to remove any extra grease. Replace the dirty solution over and over again.

Are ceramic bearings waterproof?

Are Ceramic Bearings Waterproof? Nope. Although the ceramic balls will not be affected by rust, the steel casings of each bearing are still vulnerable to the elements.

Do you need to oil ceramic bearings?

No, full ceramic bearings can be run completely dry. They do not need lubrication to run. Ceramic is non-porous, unlike steel, as a result it is virtually frictionless. Because there is no heat buildup and virtually no friction, full ceramic bearings can be run completely dry.

What type of bearing does not require lubrication?

Due to this, self-lubricating bearings are also referred to as maintenance-free or greaseless bearings as they require no relubrication or grease. An example of a self-lubricating bearing is our GGB-CSM® greaseless bearing.

What is the best lubricant for ball bearings?

Oils are the preferred lubricant in open bearing designs or when low torque or high speeds are the priority during bearing operation. “This is due to the relatively lower viscosities as compared to greases. Oil lubrication allows for more efficient movement of the ball through the lubricant, as compared to greases.”

Do ceramic bearings break?

The other apparent advantage of ceramic is that it is a harder material, so shouldn’t break down as quickly, and is resistant to corrosion. In theory, ceramic bearings should be faster, lighter and last a lot longer than steel bearings.

How long do ceramic skate bearings last?

Ceramic skateboard bearings can last over 5 years when properly maintained according to comments on Reddit. If they get wet and dirty they won’t last longer than 1 year, just like regular bearings. Compared to a set of Bronson G2’s, ceramic bearings perform slightly better over time and require less cleaning.
