How do you collect honey from a wild beehive?
Take a spoon or a masher and mash/press the honeycomb. This will release the honey from the comb and it will drain through the strainer into the bowl below leaving the wax behind in the strainer.
Can you harvest honey from a beehive?
Frames of honey should only be removed for harvesting as long as 90 percent of the comb is capped. One by one, I remove the bees from each frame full of capped honey. Some people extract the honey in the kitchen, others in the garage. Either way, the area can get sticky, so keep that in mind.

Most nectar flows end by the end of the summer. It is a good idea to harvest honey at the end of summer, sometime before September. Don’t wait too long, though. If you let your hives sit until early or mid-fall, your honey will become cold and thick, and it will be much harder to extract.
How do you extract honey without equipment?
A honey strainer is rigid, so that’s easy. If I’m using a paint strainer or cheesecloth, I put it inside a mesh kitchen strainer for support. I put the strainer over a bucket or pan, cover it to keep off the dust, and let it sit in a warm place overnight. The warmer the place, the faster the honey will drain.
