How do you choose the best colored pencils?
Soft or Hard, Student or Professional? Choose a soft pencil if you want a broader opaque stroke and creamy colors; harder ones are better for detailing but not for covering large areas. Often manufacturers will make two grades of pencils, one for students, one for professionals.
What makes a good colored pencil?
Higher-quality pencils have more pigment in the colored lead. The highest-quality (and most expensive) pencils are oil-based, while lesser-quality pencils are wax-based (hard wax is the lowest quality, soft wax is better quality). The best pencils glide easily across the page and lay down color with little effort.
Which is better luminance or Pablo?
Pablo has a firmer core than Luminance, are less opaque and hold a sharp point much better. However, the difference is not as stark as it is with say Prismacolor’s soft Premier range and their harder Verithin range.
Which is better prismacolor or Faber-Castell?
Prismacolor uses a wax-based binder — more popular among color pencils and is the most well-known look. Whereas Faber-Castell uses an oil-based binder — not as common, but generally regarded as better quality and has a different effect than the typical wax-based bound colored pencil.
