Rules for deduction: As per Section 80G, a part of the amount that you contribute to an NGO qualifies for a tax deduction. The upper limit for this has been set at 10\% of your Gross Total Income. Within this too, while donations to some organizations are 100\% exempt from tax, while others are 50\%.

Is Akshaya Patra a 100 tax exemption?

As per the revised tax exemption act, effective April 1, 2017, donations above Rs 500 to Akshaya Patra will be eligible for 50\% tax exemption under Section 80G of Income Tax Act. The exemption is calculated by reducing the donated amount from your taxable salary.

You (as an individual or HUF) can claim a deduction of Rs.25,000 under section 80D on insurance for self, spouse and dependent children. An additional deduction for insurance of parents is available up to Rs 25,000, if they are less than 60 years of age.

Are donations tax exempted?

Donations should be paid through taxable or exempted income only. Donations made through other non-taxable income sources do not qualify for deduction. Only those donations which are paid in cash or cheque are eligible, with donations made in the form of clothes, food, medicines, etc. not eligible under Section 80G.

How to claim tax exemption on donations made to NGO?

Here it is – if you donate to an NGO with eligible projects under Section 35AC/80GGA, you can get a 100\% exemption of that donation amount from your taxable income. A donation of Rs10,000 means you can claim an exemption of Rs10,000 from your taxable income (subject to certain limits).

Why should you register an NGO in India?

Registering an NGO in India is beneficial for many reasons. The basic reason is the rebate received in Income Tax under Section 12A and 80G. NGOs with 12A Registration can claim a full exemption from the Income Tax department. NGOs with 80G Certification attract more donors for donating funds to the organization.

How much can I donate to charity without paying tax in India?

Usually for amount above 500, you will be eligible for tax benefit. India has many relief funds, schemes and charity works which will give you 100\% tax benefit upon donation. The type of charity and the qualifying amount might differ from one organisation to the other.

Do NGOs have to pay tax on 12A and 80g certificate?
