How do I get my VBA code to work?

Insert VBA code to Excel Workbook

  1. Open your workbook in Excel.
  2. Press Alt + F11 to open Visual Basic Editor (VBE).
  3. Right-click on your workbook name in the “Project-VBAProject” pane (at the top left corner of the editor window) and select Insert -> Module from the context menu.
  4. Copy the VBA code (from a web-page etc.)

Why is my VBA code not running automatically?

In order for automatically-running subroutines to work correctly in Microsoft Excel, they must be contained within a Visual Basic module. You must insert a Visual Basic module into the workbook and then place the code in the new module.

How do you run a code in VBA?

Single Step

  1. Empty the range A1:E2.
  2. Press F8 four times.
  3. Press F8 two more times.
  4. Single step through the rest of the code to see how Excel VBA enters the other numbers.
  5. Click on the green arrow to execute the macro until the breakpoint.
  6. Only part of the macro (for i = 1) has been executed.

How do I enable references in VBA?

Add A Reference Make sure that you click on the workbook you want to add the reference to, and from the VBA editor menu choose Tools -> References. In the displayed list check the box beside your renamed add-in, and then click on OK. You’ll see that your workbook now has a new reference to the add-in.

How do I run a VBA code by line by line?

VBA – Run a Macro Line by Line F8 is the key! In the visual basic editor, place your cursor inside of the macro and hit F8. This will run the first line of your code. Hit F8 to run each additional line, or F5 to resume without stopping.

Why is my VBA code highlighted yellow?

If a compile error is an incorrectly formatted line of VBA code, the VBA editor will immediately detect and highlight this(by a yellow line), as soon as you attempt to move your cursor away from the specific line of code(or codes). Compile errors are generally easier to fix than logical and Runtime error.
