If you have a trade that’s working in your favor, you can cash in by closing your position in the marketplace before the option expires. On the other hand, if you have a trade that’s going against you, it’s OK to cut and run. You don’t necessarily have to wait until expiration to see what happens.

Sell the shares using your broker or online brokerage house if you wish to transfer the vested stock to cash.

Can you cash out options early?

Early exercise is only possible with American-style option contracts, which the holder may exercise at any time up to expiration. Most traders do not use early exercise for options they hold. Traders will take profits by selling their options and closing the trade.
