How did Satyavati give birth to Ved Vyas?

As a young woman, Satyavati met the wandering rishi (sage) Parashara, who fathered her son Vyasa out of wedlock. Although both her sons died childless, she arranged for her eldest son, Vyasa, to father the children of the two widows of Vichitravirya through niyoga.

How was Vyas born?

Vyasa is born Assured by the sage and his divine powers, Satyavati birthed him a son in the bushy hide-out without anyone’s knowledge. The boy was born with divine genes of Rishi Vashishtha, his great grandfather, and so Parashar named him Vyas.

Apart from the Mahabharata, he also wrote the Brahmasootra, one of his shortest theologies on Hindu philosophy. It is said that Ved Vyas is immortal and he never died. Seeing the widespread violence in today’s times, he is said to have retreated into some remote village in Northern India.

She asked him to father children on the widowed queens of Vichitravirya according to the prevalent custom of Niyoga. Veda Vyasa had come from years of intense meditation and as a result, he looked tremendously unkempt. When he approached Ambika, she closed her eyes in fear. As a result the blind Dhritrashtra was born.
