How could Hela crush Mjolnir?

She crushed it because in the MCU she is supposedly as powerful as Odin. Also, by crunching the hammer it added some great shock value to the movie. The reason few people can lift mjolnir is the enchantment Odin put on it. Odin used a power called the odinforce to do so.

Was Odin right to banish Thor?

Odin could have exiled Thor anywhere, and if he really wanted to punish him for his actions, Niflheim or Muspelheim would have worked, but he would have also learned the wrong lessons, which wouldn’t have made him worthy of his powers again.
