How can you increase the flow rate of a centrifugal pump?

The workable way to improve pump performance is to redesign or modify the impellers of centrifugal pump. The purpose of impeller pump modification is to improve pump efficiency, reduce cross flow, reduce secondary incidence flows, and decrease backflow areas at impeller outlets.

What affects pump flow rate?

The volume of fluid you wish to transport over a given time will be your flow rate, while the type of material and the distance between input and output will affect the flow rate you can realistically achieve. Therefore, these three aspects of a healthy system are all interlinked.

What is the effect of inlet suction head on the performance of the pump?

Typically, the higher the energy level and specific speed of a pump and the lower the net positive suction head margin, the more sensitive the pump’s performance is to suction conditions.

Suction flow rate = Suction air volume. (l/min) that an ejector can draw in.

How can I increase my head suction?

One method for increasing the NPSHA is to increase the pressure at the suction of the pump. For example, if a pump is taking suction from an enclosed tank, either raising the level of the liquid in the tank or increasing the pressure in the space above the liquid increases suction pressure.

How does suction pressure affect discharge pressure?

If suction pressure changes, the discharge pressure will also change. Thus, if the suction vessel or tank level is high, the discharge pressure will be higher than if the vessel or tank is nearly empty. Fig. 3.55 illustrates this by plotting the pump discharge head vs. flow for high- and low-suction tank conditions.

What is the minimum flow rate for a suction energy pump?

The minimum flow rate for the AOR is typically determined by the “start of suction recirculation” for high and very high suction energy pumps, especially those with low NPSH margins. The start of suction recirculation generally ranges from 40 to 100 percent of the BEP flow (see Fig. 2).

What is the function of suction tank fluid in pump?

Usually the liquid is displaced from a suction tank to a discharge tank. The suction tank fluid provides pressure energy to the pump suction which helps the pump. We want to know how much pressure energy the pump itself must supply so therefore we subtract the pressure energy provided by the suction head.

When should pressure controls be used in the suction pump?

In some cases, the flow rate may drop to below the recommended minimum at very low head conditions. Therefore pressure controls may be used only when the pump suction pressure is stable, or when the suction pressure variations cannot move the flow rate below the manufacturer’s recommended minimum.
