How can I prepare for mains with prelims?
We recommend that you start your mains preparation along with the IAS prelims preparation. Focus on covering the portions in the prelims GS paper first. Then move on to the other sections even before the prelims. Only this way you will be able to cover the UPSC syllabus before the mains exams.
Should I prepare for prelims or mains?

I, personally, consider prelims to be a different exam altogether; it’s a mere coincidence the syllabus for prelims and mains is the same. The approach for reading anything from prelims perspective is a sea change when reading it from mains/interview perspective.
Do you feel underprepared for the prelims?
Note: DO NOT feel underprepared or over-prepared if you have done things differently. Some people clear without taking a single mock for prelims or never having made any notes. All you need is dollops of confidence: continue with your strategy if you think it’s working for you and be confident when you walk into the exam hall.
