Your musical tastes are closely tied to your personality. In fact, a recent research paper published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science says that personality appears to play a more important role in the types of music you enjoy than your gender, age, socioeconomic status or cultural background.

I hear people calling MBTI a ‘personality test’ or ‘personality quiz’. It’s neither of these. There are no right or wrong answers with the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, though some people wrongly call it either a ‘test’ or a ‘quiz’. What is the Myers-Briggs personality test?
Briggs’ MBTI is based on a theory of personality type initiated by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. During the years of World War II, mother and daughter team, Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, took Jung’s work further. They were curious about how people were similar, and how they were different.

Your personality type is far from the only thing that determines music taste. However, personality DOES play a role in what kind of music you like. It’s a complex topic that I feel would be slightly better for another question, but I do want to answer for each type which genres I’ve noted seem to be popular for each type.
