Yes, every elite college admissions officer knows about NSLI-Y. It’s hard to say whether being in the program makes a difference in college admissions or if NSLI-Y selects students who will do well in the college process. About 1 in 5 applicants is accepted, so it is not a “golden ticket” to elite colleges per se.
What is NSLI-y looking for?
NSLI-Y seeks applicants who represent the diversity of the United States. Students of all racial, national origins, religious, gender identities and expression, sexual orientations, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Previous language study is not required.
How long is NSLI-Y summer?

Summer programs last six to seven weeks and typically start in mid-June to early July and end in early to mid-August. Program dates will be specified at the time of finalist notifications (March-April). All students will be enrolled in language classes and receive at least 120 hours of classroom language instruction.
