Does natural gas have condensate?

Natural-gas condensate, also called natural gas liquids, is a low-density mixture of hydrocarbon liquids that are present as gaseous components in the raw natural gas produced from many natural gas fields. This gas can exist separate from the crude oil in the underground formation, or be dissolved in the crude oil.

Is condensate and NGL the same?

Natural gas liquids (NGL) and condensate can generally be used interchangeably. NGLs and condensates both comprise a mixed stream of hydrocarbons representing light hydrocarbons, such as ethane, and heavier hydrocarbons, such as pentane.

Is condensate flammable?

Natural gas condensate (sweet) is extremely flammable and can cause eye, skin, gastrointestinal, and respiratory irritation as well as dizziness and loss of balance. More serious health effects can occur if condensate is inhaled or swallowed.

Are Natural Gas Pipelines liquid?

Oil pipelines are made from steel or plastic tubes which are usually buried. The oil is moved through the pipelines by pump stations along the pipeline. Natural gas (and similar gaseous fuels) are pressurized into liquids known as Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs). Natural gas pipelines are constructed of carbon steel.

What is natural gas condensate used for?

What’s It Good For? The primary use for condensate oil is to make fuels, like gasoline. In fact, in some circles it is known as natural gasoline. That is really only the beginning of its usefulness, however.

What is condensate reservoir?

A gas-condensate reservoir (also called a dew point reservoir) is a reservoir in which condensation causes a liquid to leave the gas phase. The condensed liquid remains immobile at low concentrations.

Is condensate a gas or oil?

Condensate is an oil, but an extremely light one. Condensate is, as mentioned, a byproduct of hydrocarbon drilling and it may be in either liquid or gas form, depending on the pressure and temperature at the time it’s released. It is nearly transparent and almost odorless.

Is LPG the same as condensate?

Propane is used in home heating and cooking. Butane is used as a gasoline additive as an oxygenate to reduce pollution. If not sold separately, the fractionates can be mixed together to form ‘liquified petroleum gases’, or LPG. Condensate refers to a specific portion of the ‘Natural Gas Liquids’.

Is natural gas condensate a hazardous waste?

If the natural gas condensate is generated by transportation or manufacturing operations beyond the production process, it is not exempt and would be regulated as a hazardous waste when discarded if it displays one or more characteristics of hazardous waste (58 FR 15284; March 22, 1993).

Can oil pipelines be used for natural gas?

The nation’s more than 2.6 million miles of pipelines safely deliver trillions of cubic feet of natural gas and hundreds of billions of ton/miles of liquid petroleum products each year.

What can condensate be used for?

Uses. Condensates are used as refinery feedstocks for the manufacture of products such as petrol (gasoline), jet fuel, diesel and heating fuels. Some condensates, particularly those with a high paraffin content, are used for the manufacture of ethylene.

How is condensate made from natural gas?

In this process, the natural gas liquids (condensate) are stripped from the gas on the surface after it has been produced from the reservoir, and the dry gas is then re-injected into the reservoir through injection wells. Again, this helps to maintain pressure in the reservoir while also preventing the separation within the hydrocarbon.

Where do you connect a condensate discharge pipe?

Where an installer is fitting a new or replacement boiler, the condensate discharge pipe should be connected to an internal “gravity discharge point” such as an internal soil stack (preferred method), internal kitchen or bathroom waste pipe such as sink, basin, bath or shower waste.

Do I need to insulate internal condensate pipes?

Internal condensate drainage pipes run in unheated areas such as lofts, basements and garages should be treated as external connections and insulated accordingly. Weather proof materials may not be necessary and should be assessed by the heating engineer.

How do you connect a condensate pipe to a boiler?

Internal Condensate Pipe Discharge Connection Where an installer is fitting a new or replacement boiler, the condensate discharge pipe should be connected to an internal “gravity discharge point” such as an internal soil stack (preferred method), internal kitchen or bathroom waste pipe such as sink, basin, bath or shower waste.
