Yes. For some reason, some people in the 70’s and 80’s still thought wrestling was real. It was not until Vince McMahon broke the fourth wall did the industry acknowledge openly that it was all scripted and set up in advance.

Because it entertains us a lot, sometimes more than those awkward films. It is scripted and the wrestlers act so fabulously that we start to think that it is real. The matches are so perfectly executed that it attracts everyone.

Vince sees NJPW working with AEW, Impact, and ROH and wants to stop those partnerships. He gets NJPW to commit to an exclusive partnership with WWE here in the states, he knows that can have an effect on those other companies. I also don’t think it would be a good move for NJPW as Vince will undoubtably try to push his agenda within the company.
